Digital Literacy

How does digital literacy help a person in society?

Digital literacy helps people in several ways. One way that it helps people is by giving various formats to view their personal information. They can view information such as banking information, bills and credit reports. Another way it helps society is by helping people communicate more. With the various ways society is able to communicate, families have been reunited, businesses can work more effectively and people can meet others with similar interest. Digital literacy is also becoming a standard in some countries. It is almost a requirement. For example, my parents are in their late 60's and early 70's and found it necessary to have a computer to stay up to date and be able to communicate with others virtually.

What is computer security and how can you ensure security of your computer and data contained in it?

Computer security is a branch of technology known as information security. It protects information and property from theft, corruption, or natural disaster.  Computer security is a collective process and mechanism by which sensitive and valuable information and services are protected from publication, tampering, or collapse by unauthorized activities or untrustworthy individuals and unplanned events.

To ensure the security of your computer, one must take certain measures.  Computer users must be mindful of the websites they visits.  Numerous websites that users look at and click items contain viruses and/or spyware that can be harmful to computers.  Users should also be mindful of those that use their computers.  If someone allows another user to use their computer, they are at risk.  They are at risk as the other user could visit harmful websites and could possibly hack into accounts that have passwords saved on the computer.  One important way to protect computers is to put an anti-virus on the computer.  The anti-virus can protect the computer from being hacked and protect is from harmful viruses.
